The Grand Junction Police Department responded to a single-vehicle crash in the area of Memorial Gardens located at 2970 North Avenue, on 04/27/24, at approximately 2:25 a.m. The vehicle struck a gas meter and an unoccupied building, knocking down two power poles and causing a power outage to the surrounding areas. Xcel Energy shut off the gas meter and worked with the Grand Junction Fire Department to isolate a gas leak caused by the crash. There were no reported injuries. The driver, who fled the area, was later contacted and taken into custody with charges pending. Eastbound and westbound lanes of North Avenue between I-70 B and 29 ½ Road were closed for several hours until responding agencies could clear the scene and were reopened at approximately 11:45 a.m. This crash is under investigation and there is no additional information available at this time.
