On July 3, 2025, at approximately 4:10 p.m., officers with the Grand Junction Police Department responded to a report of an assault in progress at Walmart, located at 2881 North Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers learned that two men had been involved in a physical altercation outside in the northwest corner of the store’s property. During the incident, one of the men began physically assaulting and kicking the other male before leaving the area on foot.
The victim sustained serious bodily injuries and was transported to the hospital by the Grand Junction Fire Department for medical treatment.
Following a search of the area, officers located the suspect hiding under a bush near a nearby restaurant. Although he initially refused to cooperate, officers were able to safely take him into custody.
The suspect, identified as 44-year-old Cody Tidwell, was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility and booked on the charges of Second-Degree Assault, Resisting Arrest, and Obstruction.
This is believed to be an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation is active and ongoing. No further information is available at this time.
