Police News Posted on April 02, 2025

April 13, 2025, marks the start of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (NPSTW), a time to honor the dedicated emergency dispatch personnel who serve as the critical link between communities and first responders. Grand Junction Regional Communication Center 911 dispatchers work tirelessly around the clock, providing life-saving assistance, reassurance, and essential coordination during emergencies.

NPSTW was established in 1981 by Patricia Anderson of the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office in California. In 1994, President William J. Clinton signed Presidential Proclamation 6667, officially designating the second full week of April as a time to recognize these unsung heroes. From April 13 through April 19, 2025, the Grand Junction Police Department proudly celebrates the expertise and dedication of its 911 dispatchers.

The Grand Junction Regional Communication Center (GJRCC) provides vital emergency communications for more than 20 public safety agencies across the Western Slope. In 2024, GJRCC dispatchers handled 289,781 total calls, responded to 245 text-to-911 messages, and coordinated responses for 159,640 incidents, ensuring seamless collaboration between law enforcement, fire, and EMS teams.

The Grand Junction Police Department joins agencies nationwide in recognizing these exceptional professionals for their commitment, skill, and unwavering service to their communities.
