[ARCHIVED] GJFD Busy With Weekend Fires

GJFD Fire, burned dumpster and side of a building

Grand Junction Fire Department Responded to five fires over the weekend: one in a home, one in a camper, and three at commercial properties.

On Saturday at 12:50 PM, a homeowner called to report a bedroom on fire on the 300 block of Fairview Avenue. When GJFD arrived on scene, the resident had mostly extinguished the fire. There was significant smoke damage in the room, and fire damage to a wall and window. Crews were able to fully extinguish the fire and ensure that no fire had spread to the attic. Crews ventilated the home and turned the home over to the residents.

On Saturday at 9:49 PM GJFD responded to the 1000 Block of north 7th Street for reports of a small fire on the outside of a building. Crews arrived to find that GJPD had extinguished a small fire on the stairs outside of the commercial building and were able to completely cool the fire and ensure no fire had spread to the exterior walls of the building. The fire damage was limited to the stairs. The cause of this fire is under investigation.

On Saturday at 10:11 PM GJFD responded to the 500 Block of North Avenue for reports of a fire on the outside of a commercial building. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the outside of the building and were able to quickly extinguish the blaze. Damage was limited to exterior siding and a phone box on the outside of the building. The cause of this fire is currently under investigation.

On Saturday at 11:03 PM GJFD responded to reports of a camper on fire on the 2800 Block of North Avenue. Crews arrived to find the camper fully engulfed with flames spreading to a nearby tree and power pole and threatening a nearby home. Crews were able to protect the nearby home, but there was significant damage to the power pole, and the camper was a complete loss. The origin and cause of this fire are under investigation.

On Sunday at 9:07 AM GJFD responded to reports of a dumpster on fire that was spreading to the exterior of a commercial building on the 900 block of North Avenue. Crews arrived to find a dumpster fully involved with flames spreading to the nearby building. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, but there was fire damage to the inside and outside of the warehouse with extensive smoke damage on the inside. The origin and cause of this fire and under investigation.

No injuries were reported in any of the fires and quick reporting to 911 allowed crews to respond to all of them and limit damage. GJPD also responded to each call and provided scene safety and traffic control.
