Forestry Board

Overview

The Grand Junction Forestry Board acts as a reviewing body for the purpose of determining professional qualification and competence to engage in the business of the following  tree maintenance services:

  • Cutting
  • Pruning
  • Removing Trees
  • Spraying
  • Trimming

The board also establishes Grand Junction's approved street list, manages appeals to decisions made regarding public street trees, makes recommendations to the City Council for the adoption of rules and regulations pertaining to the tree service business in the City, and may hear complaints from citizens relating to the tree service business.

The Forestry Board shall act as a reviewing body for the purpose of determining professional qualifications and competence to engage in the business of cutting, trimming, pruning, spraying or removing trees by giving written, oral and practical license examinations. Powers and Duties of the Forestry Board are outlined in Grand Junction Municipal Code Chapter 2.36 and Chapter 8.32. 

Meetings

  • Meetings are held at 8:30 a.m. on the first Thursday of the month at the Parks Operations Maintenance Facility located at 2529 High Country Court. Alternate meeting locations and times will be posted on the meeting agenda.

Five of the seven voting members shall be selected from any of the following categories: 

  • Landscape designer
  • Nursery professional
  • Pesticide applicator
  • Professional arborist
  • Otherwise trained or certified in a plant health industry

One member should be a representative of the Colorado State Forest Service if possible. Two of the members of the Board may be laypersons. Terms are for three years and expire in November.
