Neighborhood Program

The Neighborhood Program is a service provided at the neighborhood level intended to enhance and maintain a high quality of life for Grand Junction residents. The program is a way of building a sense of community, beginning with small groups of motivated people. The program evolved from a community goal that: "A vital, organized network of neighborhoods will exist throughout the City, linked with parks and schools and supported by City resources and active community volunteers." Forming a neighborhood association, does not create any new regulations for a neighborhood nor does it supplant any legally organized Homeowner’s Association and/or related covenants or restrictions.

Often it is problems within a neighborhood that raise residents' interest and concern. The Neighborhood Program seeks to build a sense of community to promote pro-active pride, safety, volunteering, and fun within neighborhoods rather than a group that reacts to controversy as it arises.

Organization

One of the first steps in the program is encouraging groups to hold meetings to begin to discuss positive and negative aspects of their neighborhood, plans for improvement, and a way for people to socialize and get to know their neighbors. Beyond meetings, the program supports all types of activities, including block parties, the production and dissemination of flyers or newsletters, and opportunities to work together on improvement projects.

Neighborhood Association Registration

Residents are reminded to keep their neighborhood or homeowners’ association contact information updated. The City uses this information to notify residents of any proposed development or other activity in their neighborhoods or to inform residents of other City-related news. Neighborhood Block Parties

When the weather warms up, it's time to think about gathering your neighbors for some weekend fun. By spending time with neighbors and strengthening those relationships, communities become more resilient in the face of unexpected shocks and stresses. Reserve the Neighborhood Block Party Trailer

The Neighborhood Program launched the Neighborhood Block Party Trailer in the summer of 2019. The Trailer is available to rent any day of the week and is free for city residents. To make a reservation, please review this page or call 970-254-3866.

Neighborhood Clean-up Tips

Organizing a neighborhood clean-up is a wonderful opportunity to get to know your neighbors and noticeably improve and beautify your neighborhood at the same time. During the Annual Spring Clean-Up, the City provides information to help city residents get clean-up items to the street or alley at the designated time. The Annual Leaf Pick-Up offered by the City in the fall provides for pick-up service for leaves raked to city streets.

Use the City's Neighborhood Program Resources

Neighborhood Program staff can assist you with organization and advertisement, provide ideas and information and help coordinate with other City departments as needed. The City Police Department has other services available to neighborhoods through its Community Resource Unit, such as the Neighborhood Watch Program.
