The Preamble to our Constitution (1789) on this monument reminds everyone of the Constitution, the foundation of law for these United States. These ideals recall our uniquely American goals of justice for all, no matter our backgrounds or beliefs. Building upon the four previous monuments, these precepts became a set of values and rights for the individual unparalleled in the history of mankind.
