Male Arrested in Traffic Stop Following Discovery of Drugs, Firearms, and Explosive Devices

On October 15, 2025, at approximately 1:30 p.m., officers with the Grand Junction Police Department conducted a traffic stop near North Avenue and 28 ½ Road. During the stop, officers discovered 1.42 pounds of MDMA, 112 grams of cocaine, multiple firearms, ammunition, and items that appeared to be explosive devices. The Grand Junction Bomb Squad responded to evaluate the explosive devices and determined they were not real.

The driver, John Leishman, age 29, was arrested and remanded to the Mesa County Detention Facility on the following charges:

  • Weapon on Person During Commission of Crime
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute of Sch I/II
  • Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance Sch I/II
  • Possession of a Hoax Incendiary/Explosive Device
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Drove on a Suspended License
  • Display Fictitious Plate
  • No Insurance in Possession

The Grand Junction Police Department believes this to be an isolated incident with no ongoing danger to the public. There is no additional information available at this time.
