Grand Junction, CO – At approximately 9:09 p.m., the Grand Junction Fire Department (GJFD) responded to a reported house fire on the 2700 block of Lexington Court. The resident had called 9-1-1 to report flames in the attic.
When crews arrived, they found the occupants had safely evacuated and were attempting to fight the fire with a garden hose. Firefighters quickly worked to extinguish the flames and check for hot spots hidden in the walls and roof.
Two dogs were initially evacuated with the residents; however, one ran back into the home during firefighting operations. Fire crews later found the dog safe in the basement. No injuries were reported.
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office assisted with scene safety and traffic control. The American Red Cross is providing support to two adults and their two dogs, who were displaced by the fire.
The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
