The City of Grand Junction and Mesa County invite the community to attend a community meeting to discuss a new I-70 interchange at 29 Road on Tuesday, June 4, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Bookcliff Middle School Gym at 540 29 ¼ Rd.

The community meeting is designed so community members can view a presentation hosted at 5:30 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m. as well as review the various informational boards. The design is included in each presentation and afterward participants will have an opportunity to provide input.

The need for an interchange in northeast Grand Junction was identified in 1999. Since then, studies have confirmed the benefits and recognized potential environmental impacts of an interchange. These studies will position the city and county for future state and federal funding opportunities.

“The I-70 interchange at 29 Road is the last section of the transportation loop in Grand Junction and will provide the final connection to improve regional access, while reducing congestion within our city center,” stated Grand Junction Mayor Abram Herman. “This interchange is a key component of the City’s transportation network which will provide critical local and regional access, resulting in increased economic vitality while reducing long-term traffic concerns.”

“An I-70 interchange at 29 Road will improve connectivity, community access, and economic opportunity," said Mesa County Commissioner Cody Davis. "We hope community members will join us on June 4 to discuss design options and provide valuable input for this project."[Text Wrapping Break]

In 2022, vision and goals for future design concepts were developed with local, state, and federal governments. Additionally, an extensive stakeholder outreach process helped to build consensus and document key issues and opportunities with local businesses, schools, economic development, airport, and planning organizations.

Following the community meeting, a final design will be developed based on a number of factors which will include environmental impact, community context, cost and long-term maintenance, impact on local property owners, and efficiency within the regional transportation network.
