The City of Grand Junction City Council Nomination Petition is available for in-person pick-up beginning Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, in the City Clerk's office at City Hall 250 N. 5th St. Call the City Clerk's office in advance to petition pick-up at 970-244-1509. The Nomination Petition circulation period begins on Jan. 7, 2025, and is due no later than 4 p.m. on Jan. 27, 2025. The City of Grand Junction opens the nomination process for four City Council positions; one each for Districts A, D, E, and one at-large for a four-year term. The election will be held on April 8, 2025.
The Grand Junction City Council is comprised of seven community members, five of whom are elected from and represent certain City districts, and two that are elected at-large. Regular municipal elections are held in April of odd years.
As determined by CRS 31- 10-301, to be eligible for municipal office, at the time of election candidates must be:
- A citizen of the United States
- At least 18 years of age
- Have been a registered elector within the City of Grand Junction for at least one year immediately preceding the election
In the case of a district councilmember, candidates must have continuously resided in the district from which they are to be elected for at least one year immediately preceding the election. (The acceptance of nomination is a part of the nomination petition process.) No person who has been convicted of a felony is eligible to be a candidate for or hold the office of councilmember. All municipal elections are non-partisan.
The City Clerk’s Office conducts all regular municipal elections under the provisions of the Charter, Municipal Code, and Colorado law. Information regarding the requirements of a candidate for city office is available from the City Clerk’s Office. The City Clerk’s Office will assist candidates through the election process as much as possible; however, the staff cannot provide legal advice. The City Clerk’s Office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the exception of legal holidays.
