City Social Media Account Usage Guidelines

The City of Grand Junction engages customers through many digital outlets. Communicating with the City through social media further enables customers to contact the City of Grand Junction in a direct and meaningful way.

The goal of the City of Grand Junction social media pages is to be a helpful medium that is conducive to real-time discussions and useful feedback. Some of the City’s social media pages allow public interaction in the form of comments.

Please be aware that when engaging with the City of Grand Junction through social media, you are agreeing to the following guidelines. 

The City of Grand Junction shares information, images, and video with the public through social media accounts. Comments made by the public to these accounts are reviewed and a comment or post may be hidden or removed if it fits any of the violations below (subject to amendment or modification at any time).

  1. Remove any comment that violates any local, state, or federal law regarding discrimination, harassment, or violence. 
  1. In addition, the following posts or comments may be hidden or deleted (if deleted, posts are clipped and kept in a file online): 
    • Comments not topically related to the content being commented upon; 
    • Under state statute, legally actionable personal attacks on an individual or the agency.
    • While profanity is protected free speech, obscenity is not and can be defined as material that is harmful to minors or pornographic in nature. 
    • Unsolicited and unwanted communications or spam, sent for commercial purposes.
    • Illegal activity or posts that encourage others to engage in illegal activity. 
    • Malware with the intent of interfering with the workings of a computer or network. 
    • Comments that obviously promote or encourage illegal discrimination by the City; however, hate speech is protected by the 1st Amendment. h) Defamation, statements that are false but stated as fact and subsequently cause damage. 
    • Copyright violations.
